Valentine’s Day {Menu} at Home

Since we are expecting a nor’easter (which is the norm around here lately) tomorrow we’ve decided to cancel our reservations at Catch and enjoy dinner at home for Valentine’s Day. Adam will be taking over the appetizers & main course parts of the meal and I’ll be in charge of the drinks + dessert. Here is what is on our menu!

Eating in also saves money + calories and we could afford to save a little of both right now in anticipation of our 9 day trip to California! 3 more weeks til we’re out of this snow can’t come soon enough… What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? If you’re staying home, what’s on your menu?

DIY Valentine’s Day Gift

Adam and I tend not to make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day. Fighting the crowds and paying for overpriced meals when its negative degrees outside just isn’t as fun when you’re old ;) . I love crafting from mason jars because they are so easy to work with. I made the good news jar with a mason jar back in January and I’ve used them for multiple times at bridal showers. If you are looking for an easy and inexpensive gift, this is perfect for you!

What you’ll need:

  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Washi Tape (or paint)
  • Label Maker (or marker if you use paint!)
  • Mason Jar
  • Ribbon for Jar
  • Tag to tie on to ribbon that says “Date Jar”

Instructions:

  • Add washi tape to popsicle sticks and add your date idea labels on top of that

OR

  • Paint popsicle sticks (red & pink) and write your date ideas on top of it with a paint pen

I would make each design / color a different category. Example: Red — Expensive. Pink — Less Expensive. White — Stay at home. Below are some of my ideas by category.

At Home:

Skinny Funfetti Cheesecake {Valentine’s Day Style}

unnamed (1)

  I am a sucker for pretty things that are the color pink. When I went to Target a few weeks ago, I spotted pink and red sprinkles, small vases with love quotes and sparkly valentines day cards and of course I just had to purchase them. Adam loves funfetti just as much as I do […]

2014 Closet Remix Challenge {Part 2}

download

You can read about the 2014 Closet Remix Challenge I’m doing here. Days 11-20 were definitely tougher than 1-10 because I feel like I am picking the same thing to wear over and over. One thing that’s for sure… I like polka dots, gingham, stripes and color! Days 21-31 will most likely be the toughest. Email […]

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I’m a Shopaholic. As I mentioned yesterday, I am doing a Closet Remix Challenge on Instagram.  The idea of the Closet Remix Challenge is to encourage you to bust out the items in your drawers with tags still on them, dust off things you have forgotten in the back […]

2014 Goals

goals for 2014 copy

A little late to the game with this but better late than never. I didn’t do as well as I’d like on my goals last year and want to focus on following through this year. 1. Stick to a shopping budget. Adam and I have agreed that I spend mindlessly on whatever I want at […]

2013 Goals {Update}

Unknown

Yesterday I went through my blog to see if I had made any 2013 goals (how quickly i forget) and sure enough, I had! Since I had forgotten I even made these, I think it’s safe to say I didn’t do that great sticking to them. Maybe next year I will write them down and […]

Good News Jar

photo

I saw a “Good News Jar” on Pinterest and loved the idea of celebrating the little things. We always celebrate the big things (new job, engagement etc..) but tend to forget about the little moments. With this jar, we can capture all of  these moments throughout the year and read them before 2015 (<— whoa) […]

Peppermint Blossoms

unnamed (1)

Did I mention that while I was on a baking spree last weekend I was SUGAR FREE? Do you know how hard it is to make cookie/brownie batter and not test it out? It’s basically torture and I don’t suggest you try it unless you have to. The third batch of cookies were Peppermint Blossoms […]
